Like a book club, but with video games.

Next video game book club: Quake

We’ll be playing Id Software’s “Quake” as our next video game book club game for the podcast. Here’s a link to me playing it:  Watch on Youtube

I’m currently about 1/3rd through editing the latest podcast. The next one will be a special “live” recording from Japanese Animation Mitchell’s home. We might also do some E3 reaction broadcasts if I can convince everyone that it won’t be garbage.

If you have any indie or classic games that you would like to hear us discuss on the podcast then please leave us some comments. The more free the games are, the more likely we will play them.

Your Name, Sir

You should play Another World. I think it’s free, and it’s pretty short, very fun and very pretty, and was considered a breakthrough in interactive storytelling in video games at the time. It also has an HD release. The soundtrack is fantastic and the opening cinematic is fucking great today:

That’s actually a really good idea. I’ve heard of it before and it’s an interesting bit of video game history. I’ll put it forward as a suggestion for next time after we do Quake.

Ah, also I remember it being pretty hard. It doesn’t hold your hand and there’s some try-and-die sections later on.

Catsman tells me that we reviewed it for episode 43 of the podcast. I thought it sounded familiar so I wanted to check with him. That was slightly before I joined GLA.

Well, shit.

Ahhh, how about Liero? It’s free and fun as fuck if you set the weapons to 0% loading times, but it’s same-keyboard co-op and basically just real-time worms.

While not free you could try Sanitarium or Bad Mojo, they’re both old and kinda fucked up (and underrated) adventure games that most people haven’t played.

Bad Mojo has this vile nasty atmosphere (you play a roach) and hilariously bad FMV cutscenes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkMabElIp3s

Sanitarium is just a bizarre experience start to finish.

They’re not very long I think, but certainly longer than Yo! Noid 2.

That or Rapelay.

I think a few people in GLA are pretty big into Liero so that might be a good idea, yeah. I’ll look into the others. Thanks.
